Advent 5 – Flood

A flat tire in a safe place on a warm sunny day is far from a disaster of Biblical proportions. I have a spare and AAA, so I was prepared. But honestly, these tires are in way better shape than the scary bald ones on the other car. I so didn’t expect to be on the side of the road today.

And yet… It arrived, and I had no choice but to stop and pay attention.

We wait during advent, most obviously for the coming of our Christmas celebrations. We are making preparation for that holiday and Holy Day. But are we prepared for and waiting for the return we proclaim each time we break the bread and drink the wine?

We never know when the air will come flooding out of the tire. Or when the tow truck will finally arrive. Or when our waiting for a new heaven and new earth will be over.
