Fred is a great dog. He’s an old guy, so between bursts of energy and activity, he loves to curl up and sleep. We learned pretty quickly after being adopting by Fred that he was made of Zen. I mean, this amazing sense of peace and stillness emanates from his very being when he sleeps. Just being near him is so relaxing that it’s hard to stay awake.
“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. … (John 14:25-27 NIV)
Hanging around Fred makes it easier for me to understand this passage. Peace can be imparted without words, without teaching. It can be shared and modeled quietly. And it is good.
