Poetry Month Day 23 – Holy Saturday

Scattered, even only feet apart
Lost in thought and memories
Desperately trying to recall
even as they long to forget

Dreams of walking and learning,  dashed
Hopes for liberation, pushed aside
Prayers unspoken
Hearts broken

Even if they could move past the sorrow
Even if they could ignore the shame
Even if they knew what to do next
There were laws to keep

Time to wait on God
and wait with God
